The 24th International Screen Studies Conference, will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from the 27th to the 29th of June 2014. The conference is one of the most important events of its kind and it is organised and directed by Screen journal's editors Alison Butler and Alastair Phillips. This year's topic is "Landscape and Environment".
Since moving images have always been concerned with the documentation of places over time, the 24th edition of the Screen Studies Conference aims to encourage critical debate about landscape and environment thorugh inter-disciplinary perspectives, reflecting about the ways we interact with the world through the "screen interface". The plenary sessions and the speeches will face topics such as the representation of specific screen landscapes, screen cultures, genre, narrative and the landscape, the dialectics of place and non-place in film and video, site-specific screening practices. The Conference location is the wonderful Gilmorehill Centre at the University of Glasgow.
