Recent technology developments made available a large number of innovative materials, which improve the energetic performance and the livability of a building.
The use of new materials in the construction of more efficient facades allows for an improvement of the functional, environmental and energetic impact of the building.

This “smart materials” have changeable properties and are able to reversibly change their shape or color in response to physical and/or chemical influences, e. g. light, temperature or the application of an electric field.
The objective of the article is to analyze the methods for applying this smart material to glass facades, according to their impact on the energy efficiency of the building.
